San Bernardino Homes For Sale & City Information

San Bernardino is located in San Bernardino County and is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino metropolitan area, often referred to as the "Inland Empire".  San Bernardino is the county seat and is located approximately 55 miles east of Los Angeles.  The city is the 17th largest in California and the 99th largest in the United States, with a population of just under 210,000.  San Bernardino covers 81 square miles of land and occupies a large portion of the San Bernardino Valley. San Bernardino was founded in 1810 and is one of the oldest communities in California.  In 1857 the city was officially incorporated and became known as a trading hub.  In the early 1980s the city won the All-American City Award, but has since fallen into general decline from which it is just now beginning to recover.  It is currently the poorest city in California for a municipality of its size and the second poorest in the country, just after Detroit, Michigan.
